I generally respect Steve Jobs and consider him a smart man. Comments like that, however, are just ignorant and damaging to his reputation.

"No one uses Java anymore?" Well, I guess I didn't get the memo. My entire job involves writing and maintaining software in Java. I work for local government. We have no plans to change anything soon. No offense, Steve, but you're a marketer, not a techie. That was Wozniak's job.

Errr, sorry Steve, you have a lot to learn. I do want my phone to be an open platform. Unfortunately for you, as manufacturer of it, I also want it to be available when I need it. That is your problem, Steve, either fix it or I'll buy a Nokia...

Right, I don't see why he thinks that having it be an open platform means that it would be less reliable. Come on, I thought Java was just about the standard language for cellphone apps by now...

It's certainly one of the strongest platforms, particularly for mobile games.

Nobody uses Java hey? According to here and here it's used quite a bit. Isn't Java also the most popular language at SF?

Now, those statistics are by no means definitive (and are likely flawed) but they do show popular trends and common knowledge within the industry.

Like techieMoe, I usually respect Jobs as he has done wonders for Apple but this statement is just ignorant. If no one used Java, why include it with Macs?

I have more respect for Bill Gates than Jobs.

Back in 1985, Bill Gates was begging Steve Jobs to license the Mac OS to PC builders. Gates wrote a memo to Apple executives asking that Apple "open the Macintosh architecture" in order to create "the independent support required to gain momentum and establish a standard." Apple turned down the offer and then was crushed by Gates plan B:Windows. Guess what, Gate's doesn't have to beg anymore. Apple wanted complete control over it's own product and was almost destroyed because of it. Jobs is nothing more than a control freak and that is the reason why the Mac accounts for less than 5% of the market for personal computers. I'd hardly consider him a genius for nearly destroying his own company.

the only thing th company has made since the end of the 80's that is of any value is the ipod. and thet is only doing well because it is a fad product, it is only sucesfull because people usualy dont know of anything else. like other apple products it is in a sleek case, overpriced, underpowered, and has little format support.

Did Steve Jobs run over your dog or something, benjamin20? Your last few posts have been nothing but Apple-bashing. Please restrain yourself. You've made it quite clear you have a distaste for Apple. Allow me now to offer another side.

You're welcome to your opinion that the only thing Apple has made of any value is the iPod. I disagree, and the fact that Apple made a billion dollar profit this year tells me I'm not alone in my dissenting opinion. When you say Apple is "only successful because people don't know of any else", you insult me personally. I happen to like Apple's products (both their iPod and their computers) and you're calling me a moron. I take issue with that and ask that you stop making blatant generalizations.

We all have companies and products that we dislike. For a lot of folks that's Microsoft. For you it's obviously Apple. Great. Keep it to yourself.
