It is said that if you buy a computer bundled with Windows, the seller needs to refund you if you do not accept the Windows EULA.
Of course the refund only covers the Windows licence
Try it and find out!

The articles I've read say it's a big hassle and not worth the effort. But to each their own.

I actually read my EULA when I bought my Compaq! No where on the EULA does it say you can return MS Windows for a refund, what it does say though, and I'm paraphrasing here, is that:
If you do not accept the agreement you must contact your reseller in order to return your hardware and software.
What that means is that, if you say don't accept, you need to return your computer, not just Windows. The reason there have been issues with Dell computers is probably because their EULA say you can return the "software" instead of "hardware and software". I'm sure they've fixed it by now though."Today you are freer than ever to do what you want, provided you can pay for it!" --Bad Religion

To be honest, when i got my Dell Laptop, i couldn't be doing with the potential hassle of getting my windows refund. Plus i wasn't 100% sure linux would work on there.
As it happens EVERYTHING except the 56k modem works (not tried the PC-Card slot yet, but no need for that anyway!) All of it supported in the kernel. Including the wireless card (though support in the kernel for that is a bit shaky so i use ndiswrapper for now)
It also meant that eventually i completely wiped windows off my computer leaving my house (my computer, laptop, server and mum's computer) with ONLY legitimate copies of windows (mum's computer came with XP home). So i dont have to feel badd about running illegal software.
What does annoy me however is when i have copies of Office lying round at home, and Dell FORCE you to have MS Works, or pay the stupid amounts it is for the Office Licences. How bout an option to have NO MS works OR Office. That's about my only gripe on this subject."I am not an alcoholic, alcoholics go to meetings"

I hate forced bundles. Unfortunately for laptops, you really don't have a lot of choice since you can't really build one yourself.

I know!!
Thing is Works MUST be licenced right? lets face it, it's MS, it has to be!! So if i claim money back for windows (sucessfully) i *should* get the money back for Works since i cannot use it without windows? I doubt they will give you the money back for Works suite too!!"I am not an alcoholic, alcoholics go to meetings"

This is the laptop I bought. I haven't received yet so I have no idea what the EULA says.
Besides the Windows OS there's also some other software on there, I wonder if I can try for a refund for that also. In the worst case maybe I can resale the OS.
best buy lappy
Fedora will be cozy in there
Did anyone had experience with installing FC6 on that hardware? Any known issues ?
