Impact of Linux Foundation
From Linux-foundation.org:
"Highlights:
Includes more than 70 members from around the world.
Unified organization promotes, protects and standardizes Linux. Continues to sponsor Linux creator Linus Torvalds.
SAN FRANCISCO, January 22, 2007 — The two leading consortia dedicated to the advancement of Linux® – the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL) and the Free Standards Group (FSG) – today announced that they have signed an agreement to merge and form The Linux Foundation. The new organization accelerates the growth of Linux by providing a comprehensive set of services to compete effectively with closed platforms."
What is the impact of this foundation?
Will various distro unite and create a standard for initialization (bsd, unix), location of files, application packages (rpm, deb) etc?

the impact? More softwares for Linux for sure, less confused n00bs when choosing a distro. This is just one step for Linux domination on the operating system world. Linux need standard for sure. Maybe there'll still be hundreds of distros but with "standard certified" tag within it? Linux will be less secure also. Just my wild prediction tho...

I hope the Linux Foundation release an official "lowest common denominator" distro/LiveCD every month or every quarter.
Applications compatible with this official LiveCD/Distro can be used with all major Linux distros.
Perhaps the distro maker can put label "this version is compliant with the official Linux Foundation distro March 2007" etc.
The application vendor can test the portability of their program using this standard LiveCD/distro.
