I think it's been posted several times. It's quite popular, but it is funny.

So, I am using Windows XP on my laptop and Knoppix with my pendrive (love it... can't get enough of it...) Does that make me a homosexual or a bisexual? I was not aware that your choice of OS influenced so many other aspects of my life... One learns important things everyday. I am now a better person...

Linux has no built-in anti-virus or anti-spyware software.

You cannot even buy popular utilities like Norton Security to compensate for this fact. There are no tools for common tasks like defragging a hard disk. God knows what you would use to send a fax or make a website. You cannot even get Front Page for Linux.
=)

You know its quite true. I remember when I first installed Linux I was desperately in search of an antivirus and a disk defragementer. My friend who had helped me with the installation said that he did not know about defragmenters but he was quite sure that we did not need antiviruses as of then (two years ago)

Well quite a long time since then.....antivirus? hmm...may be...but yes an ext3 defragmenter would come handy for servers.

They are out there but they do more harm to the filesystem than good. Ext3 can manage fragmentation really well, and even in the worst cases recorded it has only been as high as 30%. Over time it defragments itself as long as a reasonable amount of space is left on the disk (~10%)

Hmm..... I remember someone telling me that reiserfs can do better than this. Is it actually true that you do not theroretically need a defragmenter for resierfs?

I have also heard that ReiserFS does a better job. As for not theoretically needing a defragmenter I would say that for ReiserFS and Ext3 it is more a case of in practice not needing a defragmenter. I mean how many people here use them? If they were needed I would imagine there would be lots of open source projects to do this. All I can find however seem to be older commercial products which makes me think they are snake oil for those who are unsure.
