I've personally never learned Java, but I've heard its great. C# is good for a RAD Tool, but nothing more. I voted C++ because its what I'm learning right now, and straight away I know I can write a much better application in C++ than I could in VB any day.

I learned VB6 first up - my dad has a copy of Visual Studio 2003 (legit) and I have VB 2005. I prefer C++ over all of them - very easy to use, and very powerful.

I guess for those with a lot of time, sell-teaching c++ is a much better idea than learning basic.

However, I don't have tons of time to learn a language such as c++, so I've just started out with Gambas.
I've never used VB, but some users say that Gambas is far more coherent, and much more powerfull since it has support for both gtk and qt toolkits, and a huge selection of extra components.

Its great to create graphical apps fast.

Are you looking to learn a new language? At the risk of starting a flame war, I suggest java *me ducks away from possible flames*.

That's odd... my brother and i were just discusing this today, almost exactly, an hour before this was posted.

i like C++ but VB is easy... still C++ makes me feel like i have powers beneath my hands when i'm typing.

Actually by choosing JAVA you indirectly choose C++, JAVA is based off of C!!!

Let the flaming ensue.
