I'd agree that Windows 2000 pro was the best I used, but my favourite was Windows 95. I just enjoyed using it. Also I loved a lot of games on it too - GTA, Postal, Duke Nukem 3D. Hotplug and USB support wasn't there, but that wasn't even a concern at that stage. I just liked it.

Win2000. Actually worked about as well as one could have expected and didn't hog resources.

For the record ME was (by far) the worst

Windows 2000 !!!

Rock solid and it never failed me.
Well, apart from the periodical reinstallations

We used them all for a digital audio workstation and 2k was the best although it almost destoyed a 160 gig slave HDD I had to put it in a XP box and run a disc check...

With a KJ or DJ box you need one that can stream audio and record several tracks at once and handle large libraries of music Currently we have about 100 gig of KJ and DJ stuff...

XP drove me over to linux for win98 was actually better as far as being a resouce hog.. XP is a joke for a "working" machine...

Sometimes when I build a new box Ill drag out a 95 install cd.. It starts and says "Now Copying Files.. This could Take Awhile." Before you know it its rebooting Then it sits there for 45 minutes trying to figure out what everything is..Its funny....

for games, 95 is the best. But when 98 came, it's 98. Since Microsoft left 95 (not because it's crap) without any support and forcing migrate to 98. Most of the best games ever came up at 98 era.

for work I say windows 2000. agreed with everyone, it's actually XP without those bloats. The only problems I had with 2000 are my usb gadgets, they work better in XP.

I'm not going to vote.

Windows 98 was the last version that I used as my regular OS. I enjoyed it because I didn't know any better. Then in 2002 I switched to GNU/Linux. What an improvement!

Since then I use and have used Windows 2K and XP only when necessary. Although I'm a little impressed, or maybe relieved, that starting with 2K stability got a lot better. But I just can't see the point of picking a favorite version of Windows.

Hmm, ive used XP the most.. and its easily one of the most stable of the M$ line.
everyone rants and raves about viruses on windows.. ive never had a problem. and to be honest, the last truly "malicious" virus i saw, that actually had any real effect on system operations was the Blaster virus.

I would have to say the verison that runs "the best" of all windows releases, is Server 2003.. its quick, and IMHO the cleanest of them all.. if it werent for a few minor things (in-ability to play a LOT of games and one or two others) id probably use it as a desktop install.

So, tell me.. why isnt Vista on the list? it released 3 days before this thread was posted?

I liked it when they combined Windows CE with Windows ME and Windows NT. This new Windows CEMENT was the best thing they could have done. No virus's in cement :P.

But being honest, Windows 2000 was probably Microsoft's best OS.
