That's pretty interesting, never thought about it that way before.

Yes, very interesting. And deeply disturbing.
Full of statements like this one :
It seems this DRM thing is going further every day.Vista's content protection mechanism only allows protected content to be sent over interfaces that also have content-protection facilities built in.
[...]
Since S/PDIF doesn't provide any content protection, Vista requires that it be disabled when playing protected content [Note E]. In other words if you've sunk a pile of money into a high-end audio setup fed from an S/PDIF digital output, you won't be able to use it with protected content."To express yourself in freedom, you must die to everything of yesterday. From the 'old', you derive security; from the 'new', you gain the flow."

I didn't take the time to read it all through but it's defintely on my to-do list... I've heard a little bit about some of Vista's problems, but this is...almost too bad for any drunk executive to ever conceive.

A funny cartoon that sums it up nicely :

Heh. One day Microsoft will monitor keystrokes in Windows for 'terrorist activity' and all we'll be able to do is complain on www.linuxforums.com.

Yeah, it's amazing that it treats "protected content" the way banks treat credit card numbers, and even encrypts swap data! Between the continuous checking on the entire audio system and the encryption of data even just to send it across the PCI bus, no wonder it takes such powerful hardware to run Vista...
Great comic. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point (maybe 10 years in the future) the RIAA tries to get them to put some code in the media playback routines to make a hash of each file or stream and check it against a list of hashes for actual songs or videos to make sure the DRM hasn't been bypassed.I have sold my soul to the penguin

Hm, I told once that we should start ignoring MS. For me, I have copied OpenOffice for all my friends, explained them why is it better, so there's no problem with communication, text files etc. If we decide to watch to a car's back in eternity, we shall never be able to overtake it. We only need to make some businessmen realize that the Windows-story is a complete mistake. If they started to use Linux, MS would fall on his knees. I dislike everything about MS. I started do realize its fiasco with Internet Explorer and Outlook. I'm also suspicious about the Messenger story. I think, maybe a couple of CIA or FBI agents are watching over Hotmail server. Everybody is suspicious, a potential terrorist, ( although I think the September 11. has been done by them alone).

Don't sell open source short. And remember that WinME was suppose to replace Win98SE and didn't.
I would not be too surprised to find that Vista get modified, just to keep it in the market. How many? Six flavors of Vista? Get real Bill.
DRM is still OS dependent which is what Bill/Balllmer want us to believe/embrace.

The control freaks at RIAA and Microsoft fail to realize that all they're doing is alienating their customers.
As far as I'm concerned, current music and movies are nowhere near good enough to make me submit to their Big Brother schemes.
