That's true, but honestly I never read announcements or change logs really. For the vast majority of Linux distributions I've used, reading the manual isn't really necessary. I suppose I should have expected Slackware to behave differently and read up beforehand, but oh well.

But the critique of your hate-mailer isn't just, as you already did two rants on Vista... there is some irony in that
Haha. Indeed. Had the hate-mailer actually read *my* site he'd have found that.

Got another 2 emails today. I think that brings my total up to 7. These two were both well-thought-out and fair. They did critique certain spots but not unreasonably so. Both of them pointed out that although I was correct in saying Patrick has final say on Slackware, I didn't also point out that he's not the only one working on it. Semantics, I say.

It's amazing the amount of anger I can generate by just expressing a different opinion than these folks.

Paldo

Reading through your "rants," my guess is that you might like Paldo. It is a no-hassle live cd that works out of the box for me. Being i686-optimized, it is very fast on my Pentium 4 machine with only 384 MB of RAM. The software selection on the live cd follows the one app per task philosophy but you may install alternative packages later.

Got another hate mail this morning, regarding OpenSolaris this time. I'm confused, because I wasn't aware OpenSolaris was popular enough to have fan-boys. I guess I was wrong. In my rant I said that it logged me in as a default user named "Jack" even after installing and setting up a regular user. The first time this happened I noticed that I'd forgotten to un-mount the disc (long day, what can I say). However when I unmounted the disc and booted from the harddrive, the problem persisted, so I left it in the rant.

This **highly-educated fellow suggested that I had not taken out the CD and thus because of that one tremendous logical flaw my entire rant was "worthless" and that I should "go back to Windows." People should really look at themselves in the mirror when they say these things.

** By "highly-educated" I mean "probably had trouble coloring in the lines in primary school."

Thanks, that's a new one. I'll take a look.

I'm playing with the idea of a Mail Room section of my site. I have a prototype up, but I don't want to announce it until I've done some serious discussion. Is something like this mean-spirited? Should I just let these folks' comments drift off into the ether rather than dignifying them with a quippy answer? What do you all think?
