All I can hope is that Red Hat will keep their pants on.
Microsoft has only one goal, like techieMoe said, and that is to make sure they are getting profit out of it, regardless of how well the other side goes with such a deal ...

I don't hope this happens, I was always looking up to Red Hat like it's my big brother
and the father of Linux. Really...it's the first Linux I heard of and that was ages ago...anyway it's true I think Microsoft are just scamming all this I mean what is it that they REALLY want?

hmmm i never thought of that....

Microsoft play calm, acting ignorant to linux development all these years, just to watch them violate the patent and copyright borders. When the time comes, they simply bring a huge tracktor and wipe linux off the earth.
Or maybe because Vista have been critized alot even before it came out microsoft gets freak out with linux domination, and started to willingly give both side some benefit. Cmon. Yes, surely microsoft will take advantage from such deal, but microsoft is a company. Maybe they'll adapt some strong points from Redhat or Suse, and finally, make a good OS
.
Even with the first scheme, not 100% opensource codes out there violates the patent right? There're even some attempt to make some distros clean from any such code. So even with the big distros wiped clean, there'll be some survivors.

I think it's quite the opposite. Microsoft is trying to defend itself by threatening to attack first. Why? Because, I believe they've been quietly steeling code from Linux and other open source products for years, and now they want it to look like it was the other way around before somebody starts asking questions. They think that being friends with Novell and RedHat will protect them from future legal problems.

IBM is a nice example, they got screwed over while developing OS/2 Warp jointly with Microsoft...
The OpenSource/Free Software movement is driven by ideology and not entirely by money so its practicaly impossible to defeit. Microsoft still doesn't seem to grap that fact....All Empires rise and fall. The Microsoft Empire has already risen, only one way to go now...

Nope... Linux is a product, not a company!
