Well, Red Hat IS a Linux distribution, and it's source code is free in both sense of the word. CentOS for example re-packages all Red Hat Enterprise Linux packages and distribute it for free. Red Hat is, simply put, a "service provider". All, or almost all, paid distributions out there are just that, "service providers".

What you are asking is somewhat strange. Compare it with the following example: what does Jaguar cost compaired to cars?

Red Hat offers Linux support for companies. That is what you pay for. You get the software with it

Others, like Debian, Slackware to name some, aren't created by companies, but by individuals or community-groups. They let you download the software for free.

Well that example dosnt really make sense to me because it is more like asking what do fords cost compared to GMCs. But I guess what would have made it more clear is just what is the cost of Red Hat and what others arent free?

The 3 big commercially-supported distros that come to mind (Red Hat, SuSE, and Xandros) range from $50 to $2500. See the links below for details:
    SuSE Linux Enterprise Server
    Red Had server licenses
    Red Hat client licenses
    Xandros desktop, home edition
    Xandros desktop, professional edition

For some commercial distros, there's a parallel community-supported distro that can be downloaded freely (i.e., Fedora, OpenSuSE).
