what, specifically, was Ballmer's threat?
I keep seeing news blurbs about how Steve Ballmer is reiterating his threat that Linux users may be guilty of patent infringement. I'm not particularly worried about anything, because Linux predates his involvement with any open source products, I think he's full of bluster that will eventually end up to be blunder. But can anyone point me to a link that specifically states his position, or has he even stated his position? Seems he's more concerned about it than anyone else is.

Yeah, I read that. I was wondering if he ever got specific or if he was just saying, lots of stuff looks a lot like our stuff, so you guys must have copied off us. (sounds like a third-grade teacher's daily fare.) Also, he used a statement that was something to the tune of "other developers have benefited from Microsoft's innovation," which is very non-specific. Microsoft has benefited from the innovation of other developers as well, I'm sure.
I know that the Linux kernel could not be the heart of the "infringement" claims, so it must be other stuff; but how in the world could Microsoft claim infringement if all its stuff is so much less disciplined than open source stuff? just musing there...the code bloat that MS is famous for, and that they keep locked in a vault--those things are the antithesis of Open Source.
Unless the duct tape holding the univers together loses its sticky, I can't see much to worry about.

I'm not a lawyer, but I suspect that if MS did decide to start suing organisations for patent infringement it would sink them. They should know their rightful place in the Universe. Other people sue them. It just wouldn't seem right in reverse.
