just curious about how everyone feels about the recent anouncement that Cuba and Venezuela are adopting Linux as the main government/personal OS in their countries...

Well, this is kind of weird...you make it sound like cubans and venezuelans are just "taking" linux for themselvs and not giving anything back.

One of the members of the VectorLinux development team is cuban....and VectorLinux is kind of obscure compared to other distros, so you can imagine there are more out there.

If using Linux or any Open/Free operating system helps cut costs or reduce piracy, all the better!

Good for them. I hope it catches on.

The fact that Cuba and Venezuela are against the USA,
doesn't mean they are a couple of thugs...

Apparently the South African govt. are going down the same route. Press release here.

Another press release about the Cuban / Venezuelan decision can be found here.

I sense that linux is going to overtake windowz. It might sound a little too optimist but as soon as the olpc project completes and half the world will be filled with computers with an operating system based in fedora core and thousands of kids will be raised with linux. I think this is a great opportunity for a great development of the open-source community

I'm sorry, this has far too much potential to start a political flame war.
