Well, this is kind of weird...you make it sound like cubans and venezuelans are just "taking" linux for themselvs and not giving anything back.
One of the members of the VectorLinux development team is cuban....and VectorLinux is kind of obscure compared to other distros, so you can imagine there are more out there.
If using Linux or any Open/Free operating system helps cut costs or reduce piracy, all the better!All Empires rise and fall. The Microsoft Empire has already risen, only one way to go now...

The fact that Cuba and Venezuela are against the USA,
doesn't mean they are a couple of thugs...

I sense that linux is going to overtake windowz. It might sound a little too optimist but as soon as the olpc project completes and half the world will be filled with computers with an operating system based in fedora core and thousands of kids will be raised with linux. I think this is a great opportunity for a great development of the open-source community
