Sadly, a non-windows dell costs MORE than a windows installed dell.

Yeah... I won't ever buy a Dell (personal issues, not meant to offend dell users) but maybe dell will start pushing other OEMs to move this way.
Two levels higher than a newb.

Well.. it is a start
The more people ask for it, the better it will become.

i like the idea because then i can buy a Pc without an OS and know i am not paying the tax even if its more expensive. seems like a waste to get the license and not use it. Another thing is maybe from now on the numbers of how many people use windows wont be inflated by sales if there are a great number of people buying non windows pc's
plus my sentiments are the same as redmans

Ok Dell is pulling a fast one i decided to try and customize the E521 Series PC they offer to see if the specs were the same. well i discovered they do not offer the same specs at all on both systems. Lets say it like this on the base model they offer a celeron or something and on the open source one they offer at the base a Athlon 64 well the two PC's are not going to be the same. and you sure as hell cant find a way to compare them because they offer different video cards support and memory listings. I think they make it difficult on purpose so that people think the N-Series Open Source PC's are more expensive. I think they try to make people believe that its more expensive so they just keep buying the Windows based PC's. It just makes me mad they cant just offer it at the same price for the same specs. and give you the same options for upgrades on both types of systems. It makes people believe they are getting a 200 dollar rip off when it may be the same price or cheaper to go without windows.

there are acouple of price discrepancies and it turns out they are the same price but they disguise the pricing.

Vista Laptop of the same specs

its hard to tell because it looks like they try not to offer the same specs for both laptops
