    Being PC around your PC

I was checking out Guru's website (of openSUSE packaging fame) when I saw this link. This has got to be one of the silliest things I have read about an open source project that didn't first come from Steve Ballmer's lips.

this use of slavery doesn't just extend into software think about all the other politically incorrect terms. i.e. hard drive has a master and a slave configuration.

Oh wow. I have a confession to make. This evening I killed several system processes. That's right ... killed them. Does that make me a murderer?

I can sort of understand how it's possible to be hypersensitive about certain words, but it's sad when things get this way.

Well, I didnt read the whole thing, but from what I did they want to change the name of the "slaves"? I think that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. I am no racist but I hate when people do the whole polically correct thing. Like for examle, I live in Ohio and I guess that I while ago some "Native Americans" Wanted to change the Name and Logo of the Cleveland indiands. That is soo dumb. And like when in math book word problems the always use name like muhamad and weird stuff like that instead of just regular american names like Mike or Joe (my name)I just think that that is silly to.

I was with you until you said regular American names...Neither of those names are American and you'll probably find there are as many Josés as Joes in the US.

But yeah that has to be the most ridiculous article I've read. Personally I feel that political correctness increases tension. Why worry about whether it's okay to hold a door open for a woman? I hold them open for men too. Why would it be alright for me to point out I'm Irish and not someone else? Why would it need to be pointed out?

i must be an evil man. i use my kio-slaves regularly. everytime i login to KDE in fact. hey, while i'm at it, my IDE slave drive isn't up to scratch. get me my whip, i'll punish it.
Here's why Linux is easier than Windows:
Package Managers! Apt-Get and Portage (among others) allow users to install programs MUCH easier than Windows can.
Hardware Drivers. In SuSE, ALL the hardware is detected and installed automatically! How is this harder than Windows' constant disc changing and rebooting?

you think that's bad. a girl threatened to get her big friend to come knock my teeth out for offering to move a heavy cage for her.

To be fair to the author (I don't agree with him) what he is saying is that the use of the master-slave terminology, that does not describe very well the interaction between the processes, is still used because people in the technology sector have not recenty been slaves and don't understand the power of the word. For example, why don't we replace daemon with coolie or kike?
