Yahoo is pulling my chain again!!
Usually I use my Konqueror browser to view my Yahoo email. Today Yahoo presented me with a " personal page " that I am supposed to format before I am allowed to read my email. I got instantly aggravated and went to my Opera browser to view my Yahoo mail and had to deal with the advertizing overload that is todays Yahoo. Bummer!!

Doesn,t gmail require a cell phone number?

I got in touch with an acquaintance that also uses suse. He told me that he was not encountering the problem that I had with Yahoo. He told me run the Suse " repair installed program " which I did. I went back to Yahoo through my Konqueror browser and everything worked fine like it did before.
I guess I was the victim of some shenanigans. I also followed your suggestion Ozar and got a gmail account. The gmail formal is a bit unusual though and will take some getting used to. Thanks for the advice!!

It might if you don't have an "invite" from someone for signing up. I never gave them a cell phone number, though. I have extra invites if you need one.

Ozar when I moved from Boston to New York City in 1997 I had a Verizon cell phone. I went to the Verizon in the Staten Island Mall to get a local phone number. My monthly bill more than doubled however so I cancelled the service. I have a beeper and that is as far as I want it to go.
When I am out and about I am unavailable to everyone not presently with me. I have gotten to really dislike the screaming people do on cell phones.

Yeah, I have a huge dislike for cell phones, pagers, instant messengers, and anything else that makes anyone think they can have instant contact with me. I value my privacy and time too much to simply give it all up to electronic gadgetry.
It is true that I'm online quite a bit, but once I log off, that's it... I'm pretty much out of touch. Heck, it's rare that I'll even answer my land-line phone.

CousinLucky, if you want a gmail invite just let me know. I've got a crap load left.

Dark_Stang your kindness and generousity are very much respected and appreciated by me. However I now have a gmail account. It seems they have dropped the cell phone requirement.
Ozar, I have an answering machine that I had to unplug because someone had hacked into it's software system and prevented me from shutting it off. The only phone in my house that rings is the one by my desk right next to my computer. If it rings while I am sleeping or eating I will not hear it. The phone next to my bed flashes a light when a call comes in.
It is not that I am anti-social or aloof. There are times ( especially within my apartment ) when I do not want any human contact. I have gotten to the point now where I sometimes pray for the survival of humanity while riding on the ferry or a city bus.
There are just way too many disturbed people in New York City.
- 03-01-2007 #10I've noticed myself doing much the same recently. I like company, but it has to be the right kind ...
