    I come to bury Linux, not to praise it

    Friends, hackers’s, countrymen, lend me your ears;
    I come to bury Linux, not to praise it.
    The bugs that existed in old Operating Systems are wretched ;
    The great apps are oft forgotten with obsolete PCs;
    So let it be with Linux. The noble Ballmer
    Hath told you Linux is more expensive
    If it is so, it is a grievous fault,
    And grievously will Linux answer to it.
    Here, under the grudging leave of Ballmer and the rest—
    For Ballmer is an honourable man;
    So are they all, all honourable men—
    Come I to speak in Linux's funeral.
    Linux has been my friend, inexpensive and stable for me:
    But Ballmer says Linux is more expensive;
    And Ballmer is an honourable man.
    Linux hath brought many applications home to my PC
    Whose savings on commercial apps did my general coffers fill:
    Did this in my Linux seem expensive?
    When I needed a free GPL app, Linux hath provided:
    Expensiveness should be made of sterner stuff:
    Yet Ballmer says Vista is cheaper;
    And Ballmer is an honourable man.
    You all do see that Vista is now oem delivered,
    Granted by Ballmer a kingly crown,
    Vista may need a new PC to run. Is this lessExpensive?
    Yet Ballmer says instead, that Linux is expensive;
    And, surely, he is an honourable man.
    I speak not to disprove what Ballmer spoke,
    But here I am to speak what I do know.
    You all have heard of freedom with Linux, not without cause:
    What cause stops you then, from now installing Linux?
    O judgment! thou art fled to brutish beasts,
    And men have lost their reason. Bear with me;
    My heart is in the coffin there with my old hardware,
    And I must pause till I can afford a new PC.

    Too much sarcasm?

    Maybe my sarcasm (and frustration with the rapid OEM spread of Vista) is too deep? I suspect those familiar with Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar are most likely to get the sarcasm.

    Oh, I got the sarcasm. Unfortunately the last time I read Julius Caesar was in grade school (about a decade ago), so any reference to that was lost on me.

    Yes, I too got the irony. Damning with faint praise perhaps? The world is run by 'honourable men'.

    Ooh, was that Julius Caesar? Wow, it's been way too long since I read that (same boat as TechieMoe), 'cause I couldn't even be sure it was Shakespeare.

    It was an enjoyable read.

    yeah, understand. It was 35 years ago when I studied Julius Caesar, but I confess, it made a mark on me. Here is a quote from Shakespeare's brilliant original:

    ==============================================
    Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears;
    I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.
    The evil that men do lives after them;
    The good is oft interred with their bones;
    So let it be with Caesar. The noble Brutus
    Hath told you Caesar was ambitious:
    If it were so, it was a grievous fault,
    And grievously hath Caesar answer'd it.
    Here, under leave of Brutus and the rest—
    For Brutus is an honourable man;
    So are they all, all honourable men—
    Come I to speak in Caesar's funeral.
    He was my friend, faithful and just to me:
    But Brutus says he was ambitious;
    And Brutus is an honourable man.
    He hath brought many captives home to Rome
    Whose ransoms did the general coffers fill:
    Did this in Caesar seem ambitious?
    When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept:
    Ambition should be made of sterner stuff:
    Yet Brutus says he was ambitious;
    And Brutus is an honourable man.
    You all did see that on the Lupercal
    I thrice presented him a kingly crown,
    Which he did thrice refuse: was this ambition?
    Yet Brutus says he was ambitious;
    And, sure, he is an honourable man.
    I speak not to disprove what Brutus spoke,
    But here I am to speak what I do know.
    You all did love him once, not without cause:
    What cause withholds you then, to mourn for him?
    O judgment! thou art fled to brutish beasts,
    And men have lost their reason. Bear with me;
    My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar,
    And I must pause till it come back to me.
