Linux bettering the MS Windows experience

Just sharing a thought with my LDFO friends...

...Even though Linux has been my primary OS for years now I still use Windows XP on a daily basis at work.

But an interesting thing that I've noticed since being a Linux user is that it has had an effect on my choice/style of software on Windows. What I mean is that traditionally (like most windows users I guess) I used the 'popular' software's available (photoshop, MS Office etc.) without even being aware of any freeware/OSS alternatives.

So now I us apps such as Audacity, OpenOffice.org, gimp, Avidemux, lame, firefox, mp3splt (yes the command line one) etc. on windows and I feel a lot better for it. No adverts, limited trial versions etc.

So have any of you who are still exposed to both OS's found that using Linux has changed your windows experience at all?

I actually started using Linux programs on Windows before migrating to Linux. Either way, Linux has changed my windows experience. I use Gaim instead of WLM too (I also like Gaim because it hasn't got voice chat support, one of my friends uses voice chat all the time and I don't like it :P).
    That's my two pence worth.

Yes very much so ... I wish I could use more FOSS software at work, but I approach my IT problems more systematically because of having to do that at home. I think of what might be happening 'behind the scenes' much more ... beyond the world of GUIs

I'm using FreeMind to help get a view of my workload (I prefer mind maps to lists) ... I'm not afraid of using a Windows command line etc ... It's pretty positive.

I've had much the same experience. With Linux at home and Windows at work, I'm now using a lot of OSS at work that I wasn't aware of before using Linux. It's done wonders for avoiding malware and adware!

Besides changing the software I use on windows, linux has vastly improved my understanding of computers so that I am a better windows user as well.
