I always encountered some major problem installing GNU/Linux. Mostly modem related. Untill I found Slackware. Finaly a distro that understood me *sigh*
At first tarballs just seemed to explode onto my system, leaving the executables unfindable. But I got the hang of it. I had made a list of everything I wanted my computer to be able to do, and I got one thing off the list every day. In three weeks time I had written my first 150 lines of script.

this just happened..
My neighbor just asked me if he could send an email from my computer, he's sending his CV so this is a matter of desperation for him, so important that he will only send it from XP. He's afraid that something goes wrong, can't blame him, little does he know!!
So I try logging in but my ISP rejects my entry so I call them up and they say they are having technical problems that should be resolved in an hour. Now he's devastated.
That's when my newly developed instinct kicked in and I thought, hmmm, lets try logging on with Linux, and guess what. I'm online and they are fixing the problem as I write this post.

Great thread
I sometimes feel like a tech god for the smallest little things. Today I managed to get Beryl and XGL working for the first time ever and I've been trying looong now. Strange thing is I always did things right (I think) but it just never worked
but heck i'm so happy now :P

Every time I boot up, I feel like a tech God.
Or maybe I have delusions of grandeur?
I installed Snort last night and started running it as a daemon. Someone is port scanning me. If I could kick back at them somehow ...
