You ever have those moments when you feel like a tech god? Yeah, I kinda feel like that right now... Why you might ask? Well... last night I screwed up my laptop and today I wasn't able to use X. I was able to get on the network, install the correct packages, and reconfigure my boot list all from console...
I know many of you are like "That's no big deal." Don't spoil it for me... at least not yet.Two levels higher than a newb.
(I can search google)

On the contrary, I think this is one of the biggest deals. Just the fact that it's possible to fix things like this is one thing I really love about Linux, and it's something that empowers us all to be tech gods!

It's the way I think most people catch the bug. I know the hairy moments are the ones that scared me but in the end encouraged me to keep on going with Linux. For one I love to learn, but even just the fact that I fixed it myself makes me want to continue using it.
I find less stuff breaks for me these days. I'm still trying to figure out whether it's because applications and distros are better or I'm just less adventurous

Yeah you get a nice feeling when you successfully configure something or fix something in Linux (Which is something we don't get in windoz). That's the main reason I got to use Linux (After screwing-up a Gentoo installation, Messing with the VGA card driver) all these situations are fun when we finally fix them
cheers

Some people seem to view the somewhat fragmented nature of Linux/*nix distributions as a bad thing for the OS community, but I disagree. Not only are all the different "distros" competing against MSWindows, also are they competing with each other. Well, individually and unified, (regardless of place in the market) and imho, that already and by default makes each and every one of them much, much better than any version/upgraded Microsoft product or whatever.

Nice.
But its the physical innovations i like.. students where i work forget passwords (a LOT) so we reset them and write the new one on a sticky note..
2 days ago, we "borrowed" a reciept printer from the office.. now we just print the passwords out directly
kids think we are odd, but we know we are genius !
