Again ... looking for new distros

I'm really bored with my current distro, I was using Gentoo a month ago (used it for 6 months) but got tired of compiling everything and installed Ubuntu Edgy.
Boring ... everything just works when I plug it ...

In a desperate need to get some fun again with Linux I reinstalled Gentoo with an stage1 tarball but got bored when I finished installing fglrx and Beryl, rebooted into Ubuntu and ran cfdisk and deleted the partition ...

Then I was bored again and installed Mandriva, got everything working and learned how to use urpmi but the whole process was boring ...

Next step, tried to install LFS, I compiled glibc in the real system and everything worked but became so boring again after that ... deleted the partition again with cfdisk

Next step, installed FreeBSD on an empty partition. Everything was working fine including sound and my widescreen monitor ... got bored after that. deleted the partition. Also installed OpenBSD and NetBSD .. the same happened ...

I also booted BeleniX but I don't like Solaris ... maybe with a Sparc processor may be better ..

In my last attempt to get some fun again, installed Apache, PHP and MySQL. Installed some cool things like phpBB, WordPress, MediaWiki, moinmoin, Joomla, etc. And guess what? stopped all the service and unistalled all the programs

My next project is a cluster between my laptop and desktop ... hope it's fun ...

Any suggestion? Any really innovative distro out there?
I'm open to any suggestion ...

    Thanks
    Bored Juan Pablo

You could try Arch if you haven't done so already. It's a bit like Slackware and a bit like Gentoo, yet not really like either of them. If you like command line, manual configuration, and having lots of control over your distro, you might like it. Most likely, you'll either hate it, or love it. At least that's the way it is with most who try Arch Linux:

Maybe you should get out of the computer room meet some girls kidding I have been on a distro binge myself lately. going for that jack of all trades master of none mantra. Right now i am trying PCLinux, FreeBSD and PC-BSD. Just got done playing with Zenwalk, Ubuntu, Foresight, Slax(again), DSL and many more. at home I use Slackware, OpenSuse, and CentOS.

You could design a network interface for commodore 64's, then set up a cluster of fifty of them to handle a website that has 3 transactions a day.

Or you could take an old cash register running on a 386 and get it to run linux, then develop a POS application for it.

Or.. I'm out of ideas right now

I'll second that! I had a lot of fun learning the hurd. It's really amazing how much different a micro kernel is from the standard monolithic ones. Another interesting OS is Minix. Both of them have very limited X support but on the hurd you can run some pretty advanced stuff, and last I check Minix runs TWM with some issues.

You could try roll your own Linux.

And just for poops and giggles, I'd like to announce a new word, that I created using my warped sense of humor:

    Hurd for the win!

Yeah I find that nowadays. I had gotten used to sweating over hardware configuration and custom settings for everything. It says something about the amount of development on Linux over the last few years, how much easier and automagic it is.

Learn to programme - and maybe teach me how to use Apache, MySQL and PHP!
