Yes you were! I think it's the one after this Feisty that is going to be LTS.

I was very unimpressed with the last version (6.10) since it completely destroy an installation when I tried upgrading from Dapper. The software was also extremely buggy, the version was just generally crappy. I guess it had to do with the fact that they tried to rush it. Dapper on the other hand was really nice, very stable and virtually no bugs. Hope this new release is more like Dapper in this respect.

Interesting. Can you point me to a press release or something? I can't seem to find any information about this.

*On a side note, it really doesn't matter if I can't get Feisty shipped to me; I'll still end up downloading it once it goes gold.

Not really, just the fact that they've said LTS releases will be made every 18 months or 3rd release! Which means the LTS release would have to be released roughly at the end of this year, seeing as Dapper was release in June.

So the next LTS by that logic would be 7.10? I'd really like to find a press release or something to clear this whole mess up.

I had heard the same story but I can't find a press release or anything offiicial. I did find this quote :-
In talking with Shuttleworth, it was hard not to get the sense that 6.06 LTS is a bit of a trial balloon for Canonical and the rest of the Ubuntu community. Shuttleworth emphasized it will wait at least a year and a half to see if another release of Ubuntu will receive the LTS designation. Which means the earliest we would see the next LTS version of Ubuntu is 7.10, and even that's not for sure. If Ubuntu is not well-received in the enterprise, we may not see a release like this again, and at worst Canonical loses face — while continuing to focus on the desktop aspects of Ubuntu that have made it so popular.

Good enough for me. Have they come up with a name for it yet? Given their previous choices, I think it's likely to be something like "Grumpy Grackel" or "Gimpy Gecko".

The LTS (Enterprise) releases of Ubuntu appear to be scheduled informally ... I've just been reading a few articles about this. This isn't a press release, but is at least illuminating.

More interestingly - from where I'm sitting - I found out that the Ubuntu Community Manager for Canonical is Jono Bacon. Amazingly, he used to work 20 minutes away from where I live. A bit of trivia for you there.

Although I am more a "RPM" distroman, I'm curious how the new Ubuntu relates to Debian. Anyone want to comment on that based on practical experience?

I believe it won't be Grumpy Groundhog, as this name has been assigned to the Ubuntu project regarding a perpetual unstable distribution, à la Debian Sid :

I haven't seriously tried Feisty yet. I gave Feisty Herd (ie alpha) 4 a brief try, and it seemed enjoyable. But now Herd 5 (or any recent daily-live build, either i386 or x86-64) won't boot on any of my machines, only displaying this error message after a few seconds (even booting it in QEMU does the same) :

    Code:
    BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3-3ubuntu3) Built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

/bin/sh:can't access tty; job control turned off
    (initramfs)
I just don't have the patience to debug this right now, so it ends there for me.

Ah, the six degrees of Jono Bacon.
