Brand New to this Website & Forum

Hello All,
Wishing everyone a Happy Friday !!
I am excited to be here, I joined to try to stay current with linux, and I am getting a desktop given to me. I am going to install Linux. A little background in a nutshell...did over 10yrs in USAF in computer field..to be specific I was a Tech Controller (networking) ..got out...still in networking...now I work for NASA at KSC. I will try to help out all the questions I know answers to. I have on very small question. What is the best (for my situatiion) flavor of Linux to install on my not yet recieved old used desktop PC ? 90% of my functions on PC's are surfing the web, songs and a lot of videos. the pc will most likley be a P3 or older, and probably 1 gig of ram or less ...probably a 1.6 cpu.
Thank you all, and have a great weekend. BTW my email is tecsurfer@hotmail
but will most likley be back here in a matter of minutes...hours...tomorrow sometime.
Thanks

Hi tecsurfer,

Welcome to the LinuxForums.

any lightweight distro will work fine on older machines. please check this link. we can't tell you which distro is best for you. you have to find out yourself. try as many as you can.

Happy Friday to you too! You know, most people say that Friday is the best day of the week but I don't understand that - Saturday is the best!

Anyway, I'm getting off topic. Welcome aboard and enjoy yourself.

Thank You

Thanks Casper & Ozar .
Appreciate the info.
I will head over to the link you sent.
PS- I was out on Ebay earlier & there is this linux app
called Blue Katana for sale. I did not buy it becuase it appeared to be a scam, not sure. I also used to use a lot of Redhat, and I have istalled
Fedora before ( I think 6.0 ) the cores were kind of a pain, but like I
said, I am relatively a linux newbie, but love the stuff becasue I work
heavily with Cisco CLI.
Thanks again
