Lfs??
HI,
I dont really know if am in the rite place.. All what i want to do is to learn to have an own personalised OS. I have read a lot about LFS, but not really got far enough to start with it. Using windows all life i got really bored and have not much idea how to start with LFS. To say more about what i have and know--- Windows XP, vista and red hat installed. Have hands on programming in c, c++ and VB 6.
All i want is to have an OS which has just wat i want to use and not all the onther things in the world. Can someone help me??? May be if can tell me how to start doing it with LFS may be.

well for starters LFS is basically a PDF book that you read through and follow the instructions. if you decide to take baby steps try crux. its a manually configured distro. then you might have an idea on how it works. then read through LFS book and create a partition. you still have to have a linux distro of some kind to compile the kernel from. they have a LFS live cd that would make it easy to get started with no installed distro or operating system.
ps i think Juan Pablo on this forum has installed LFS you might look him up and see if he has any suggestions on how to get started.

Another good O/S for beginners is Mandriva. The new new mettisse version is pretty good on eye candy as you'll see if you visit their website. Ubuntu/Kubuntu is another easy to install version. You could try adding them to your HD by dual boot before you plunge into it further.
