For that purpose, Ubuntu works.

I've been harsh on Ubuntu in the past (as I alluded to earlier) but I don't hold grudges from one release to the next. Believe it or not, if Slackware suddenly changed their entire philosophy into something I'd use, I wouldn't write such scathing rants about it. Once a distribution becomes useful for me, I no longer loathe it.
I have suggested several crappy OSes for you to review Sylable and Nexenta and... Oh well! I opened distrowatch today to find a distro called Topologilinux which is based on Slackware so I wont even suggest reviewing... I was almost tempted to try it but I got scared...

...And I thank you for doing so. Without seriously crappy OSes, my site wouldn't be nearly as entertaining for me or anyone else. I still chuckle when I read rants for things like aLinux.

I'm surprised that Debian users have taken the lead (as of this post), and was thinking that Ubuntu would probably score the most users. The low number of RedHat/Fedora users is a bit surprising, too.

Of course, there's still quite a bit of the year remaining for votes to be counted, so maybe the numbers will swing one way or the other before the year is out.

I use Puppy Linux and like it a lot. I would love to get Debian, Slackware, or SuSE on my computer but they will not install on my HD. I have used Knoppix but am not very familiar with it (I like it though). I would suggest not using Knoppix for your main distro because it is a live CD (you might be able to install it to the HD but I don't think so).

You most certainly can install Knoppix on your harddrive, and it looks exactly as it does on the CD; it just runs a lot faster.

Yeah, just a few years back, I ran Knoppix as my default Linux and it was installed on the HD. It worked really well too, but it sometimes had problems with updates. Being a fan of lighterweight distros, I eventually dumped it for something else.

I love Knoppix as a live CD, though.

Looks like Redhat needs to see this and choose their next steps carefully (which should translate to "users are not test creatures")

Ignore what I said a while ago about Puppy. I have switched over to Ubuntu and it totally ROCKS! If I were you I would go with Ubuntu.
