Is a test for malware possible?
I have a feeling that some kind of malware program is being downloaded from the New York lottery website. I know that some Linuxforum members are very skilled at detecting unsavory things from websites. I was wondering if such a skilled person would be kind enough to test the New York lottery website.

It is useful to have a malware detector installed permanently. You can install rkhunter. For convenience you can make a menu entry (right-click on the startbutton->menu editor). You can use: x-terminal-emulator -e sudo rkhunter -c for the command. You can replace sudo by su if your system doesnt use sudo.

I downloaded rkhunter 2.9.tar.gn but could not extract it.
" archive type not supported " is the message on my screen. Other forum members have told me my suse 10 os should extract it but it doesn't.

rkhunter tests for:
* known rootkits
* system binaries that don't match md5 sums (on supported oses)
* strange permissions on certain files
* interfaces in promiscuous mode
* and several other signs that things aren't right.
It's a handy tool, but I am not sure it is what you're looking for in this case. If you do want it, I'd imagine it's available in suse's repositories, so you should be able to just install the rpm.
What are you talking about exactly?I have a feeling that some kind of malware program is being downloaded from the New York lottery website.

Due to the many problems I had using windows on the Internet I know the sound of malicious software being installed on my computer. When I start my computer up again suse and windows appear for a brief instant in the top left of my screen. The malware will appear in the middle of my screen and I know that I have to perform a repair installation to get rid of it or my browsers will be very slow or freeze up while trying to load a page.
I do not have to bring my computer to the shop but this is happening so often I am getting quite annoyed. It could even be coming from somewhere else but it's bothering me.

I am sorry coderoot for my computer ignorance. When I start my computer the 1.5 for suse linux and the grub indicating widows xp flashes for a brief second on my screen. Then a panel will appear giving me a choise of which os I want to load up. If malware is present a bunch of letters will show up in the middle of the screen. If i go onto the Internet using suse 10 my browsers will be very slow or just freeze up. I then have to do a repair installation.
The letters appearing in the middle of my screen flash much too quickly to read. But I have noticed three different patterns of letters which never appear together but one at a time.
It's just aggravating.
