I cant help you with Windows problems, I'm afraid.

I can tell you, though, that I run Fedora Core 2 and Fedora Core 6 systems, and I have no network compatibility problems between versions. May I respectfully suggest that if you're having problems with your networked operating system that you try alternatives?

    1) Upgrade your Win98s / WinXP to Ubuntu.
    2) Upgrade your Win2003 Server to CentOS.

After that we might be able to help you.

It's a network problem. I have a windows 98 box, two windows xp boxes, and one(2 sometimes) linux boxes on my network. There used to be a windows 95 box too. They all worked in harmony.
Two levels higher than a newb.
    (I can search google)

Yes i tried before to shift my OS to win xp what happens the applications are very slow, i feel very uncomfortable to work with winxp with the current configuration. what shall i do? I feel the only way is to change my pc or upgrade the configuration, i have to check with my hardware person whether i can upgrade my motherboard to dual core processor.

We we said a change may be good, we were referreing to installing a Linux server instead of your win 2003 server

I would try out CentOS server 5 because its basically red hat so any examples for server setups are going to be mostly red hat. I use it as my File and Print Server and it works just fine. All my clients are Ubuntu or LinuxMint and have no problems interacting with the file server or printer. there really is no better or worse server because they all do the same tasks. i just think that supporting it is easier if you stick with a red hat or maybe even debian based distro because of support examples.

You can always try going to a Windows Networking forum... Asking Windows Networking questions in a Linux forum is like hunting with a slingshot. You might get something accomplished, but in the end it'll be very little.

If you're networking with LEGACY operating systems like Windows 98, you're only asking for trouble.
So you have Server 2003 and Vista, XP and 98 now?
Are all of these machines hardwired or wireless?
    Are the NIC drivers installed?
What kind of router are you using, if any?
    Is DHCP on?
    Is there a proxy server?
    I praise Webmin and PuTTy!
