    Another computer headache!!

I had used the windows xp part of my computer to write a letter and I decided to play a couple of games of " hearts ". I inserted a cd and used nero to play it. All of a suuden about halfway through the cd the sound disappeared and my computer just froze up. I could not eject the cd or even shut the computer off so I unplugged it. I can play cd's in suse linux but in windows I do not have any sound at all even though the cd player still works.

Does anyone have any idea as to just what caused this to happen? Thanks!

I'm not at all familiar with Digital Rights Management, but this sounds like one of those "horror" stories you hear about on slashdot, where someone used a Music CD containing DRM and it messed up the machine.

Thanks, MikeTbob!! I'll have to checkout splashdot and digital rights management asap.

I have played the cd in my computer many times before and nothing happened. Besides I was just playing it and not trying to copy it. I guess this is just another computer setback for me.

Sounds like a gremlin got inside the computer, but it can only effect windows, not linux.

Tomorrow I'm going to delete my nero application and then reinstall it to see if that helps.

Senility has crept into my old brain. I forgot that I created a windows restore point last August. My Nero cd player is pumping out sound again now. Perhaps my mind has partitioned off my windows experiences to keep them from bothering me.
