Transformers

I didn't expect to be impressed by the trailers for the live-action version of one of my favorite toy...er.. cartoon series from childhood. I expected this to be yet another "let's rape my childhood memories one by one" such as
movies like Superman Returns or anything at all from Uwe Boll.

I'm cautiously optimistic that this movie won't entirely suck. Having been scarred by recent cinematic crap-sterpieces I'm naturally going to have to see it before I declare anything, but what do you all think so far?

I'm looking forward to it. Some of the trailer looks really impressive but I'm dissapointed with
  • The willingness to change Bumblebee from a Beetle to a Camaro (in the name of the GM deal no matter what Michael Bay says)
  • Optimus Prime having ghey flames painted on him
  • Michael Bay is an asshat anyway

That said I really look forward to seeing it. Have you seen the new John Rambo trailer? Holy crap! It looks AMAZING!

just stating that i feel the same way as bigtom but that i still will look forward to seeing this movie. i will add to bigtom's statement of disappointment in saying that the peterbuilt long nose semi wasn't what i picture when i see optimus either i was expecting a flat nose international or something to that fact.

ps saw the rambo trailer looks really violent but cool. though when i saw that they made one i didn't think it would be worth a damn.

I'm not going to see it at all. I've read all about how the story line doesn't follow the OG transformers at all and I cried for days. The only thing it'll have in common is robots that turn into airplanes.

i hate hollywood

Well, given that I didn't really watch the cartoon as a kid (I just collected the action figures) a change in plot devices wouldn't necessarily ruin it for me. There were a few series in the eighties with really cool toys I collected without actually watching the cartoons (He-Man, G.I. Joe, Mask).

I love Transformers. I have the original animated movie and the all of the series. I still haven't watched the series.

I apologise if I sounded harsh earlier. I'm just a little touchy on the subject

On that Rambo note I think it'll be good. I'd like to see a nice close to the series. Much as Miami Vice fell victim to the constant parodies and rumoured cliches Rambo is remembered in a pretty poor light. First Blood and Rambo are both great films (though not so much Rambo III). If Stallone does as respectful a job as he did with Rocky Balboa I'll be one happy punter.

Now just bring on Soundwave and Optimus Prime!

I absolutely love transformers. I had all of the figures at the time (originals, not re-issues) and watched the series religiously. I saw the movie multiple times.

That being said, I don't care if the movie does suck. It will bring back all of the great transformer memories and it does have Megan Fox in it.

It can't be that bad.

I had a smattering of various original Transformer toys (when they were still made of metal). My favorites were the Decepticons though. They just looked cooler to me. I had a couple of autobots (Optimus Prime with his tractor trailer, Bumblebee, and that guy who transformed into the space shuttle...whose name I can't remember).

I was kind of the same way with G.I. Joes. The COBRA figures and vehicles always seemed to look cooler.
