I have had a Gmail account for a year now n i dont really get much spam mail, as somone said about using a fake email account for signing up for websites, i do tht to, n it reduces the risks of spam hitting ur main account, so at the end of the day itz all good

I only get spam at my very first email address. I made the mistake of giving that email address to yahoo for their $1.99 domain name service. The ISP that that account was formed with now uses " smartermail " which does a very good job of sending the spam ads ( loans, sex aids etc. ) to the bulk folder where I have to delete them daily.
Whenever I have to replace the ink in my HP printer ( which is attached to my HP computer ) and I happen to be on-line the printer " phones-home " to HP. When I boot up the XP os HP wants me to upgrade and I get a host of ads from HP at my first email address.
I do not know how much money yahoo got or gets for selling my email address to spammers; but I sure would like to be able to torture someone in retaliation.

Gmail spam filter
I've been using Gmail as my main email account for around three years now. I decided a month ago to see how many spam messages got caught in a 30 day window. I'm currently sitting at 5700 messages in my spam folder, but it was up as high as 6200.
Almost makes me wonder if this guy's arrest really has had a real world effect on spam. I hope so.
