Firstly, what would you like to in Linux?
If you are planning to start programming in Linux, then you can download the softcopy of the book: Beginning Linux Programming 2nd Edition. This is by Wrox publication.
thats what i used
if u like to know more there is plenty of linux based sites on the net and HOWTO sites, check them out.Linux Rocks!!!!

I'm on a similar path to you dude, and still new and fresh.
Firstly i learnt by doing through an installation. Get on the net (maybe distrowatch) and pick your linux distribution. I like Fedora because it seems advanced enough as a system, yet not so flawless that you don't need to know anything to get it the way you want it.
Once you pick your distro, type [your distribution name & number] installation guide, and, [your distribution name & number] review, into google and use those to help you run through an installation.
Then learn the command shell. [Bash, Cash, Terminal].
Probably run through a few tutorials and then the rest is up to you i guess.
Good luck.

You can do some courses in an institute about System Administration,
read some book and tutorials (Read howto's) and search in google
for "Linux System Administration begginers guide".
You can read some blogs like serverlinux.blogspot.com (
)

The book I used was Linux in Easy Steps by Mike McGrath.
It has alot of info on the shell and it's in plain english!
