Anyone using Exaile media player?
As many of you will have seen I will always recommend Amarok as a media player. I think it is a wonderful piece of kit. I'm also the kind of person that doesn't get too beaten up running KDE apps on Gnome or vice versa.
...I was however curious about trying Exaile media player. I have been using Gnome for the past year or so but I never liked any other media player enough to switch from Amarok to something GTK/Gnome based and to be honest I had no inclination. I'm trying Exaile now and I'm very impressed. It is an attempt to bring Amarok style library management and features to Gnome natively. It really seems to be doing the job. It covers a lot of the features and looks that little bit more native on Gnome.
Now I'm not saying I'm sold on it, but I am interested. Anyone else tried it?

I haven't used exaile, but you may also look at listen. It isn't the same as amarok, but has most of the same abilities.

That looks pretty interesting too. Anything with a bit more thought than iTunes clone is enticing to me

I see that most players these days have Last.fm support. I was using last.fm for the past year or so, but after CBS bought them I bailed. I'm not usually paranoid and to be fair the majority of my music was ripped from CDs I own, but last thing I'm going to do is hand over records of what I listen to to a media giant. I paid for that service because I listen to a lot of music and I wanted to see my own trends and of course have recommendations of new music.
Anyway, tinfoil hats aside I might play around with a few bits until Amarok 2.0. Much in the same way I suspect I'll move back to KDE from Gnome when 4.0 comes out

I have also gone on a quest for on iTunes clones. You might also look at quod libet and muine (few features, different concept)
I would have thought someone would have created another, non-corporate version.Brilliant Mediocrity - Making Failure Look Good

There's a program I use called atunes which is, in my opinion, very good. I run it under Windows XP though but it can run on Linux as well aTunes

One of the more peculiar uses of the English language I've encountered

Anyway, can either Exaile or Listen have the player separated from the playlist (like amarok)? rather like in this screenshot

For some reason it's not indexing my wma files. I know, I'd rather not have them but a lot are legacy. I have the gstreamer-ugly codecs so I thought that would take care of it. Apparently it's a bug in the release I have and will be fixed but it seems more a case of intentional disabling than a bug,
Look forward to the fix though!
