I think this is different because there are other sites that could be sued. Why would NBC sue this website and not go after the sites actually hosting it? They have to try to threaten the torrent sites because there are no sites hosting the files in that case.
If they didn't go to court, that might be a good thing, it seems our Judicial system has gone "technologically retarded".

In a decision reported late Friday by CNET News.com, a federal judge in Los Angeles found (PDF) that a computer server's RAM, or random-access memory, is a tangible document that can be stored and must be turned over in a lawsuit.

    What a laugh.

A frienomine suggested that if you cant find what you really want to watch on this site, you can also try Alluc.org, as they often have different stuff available.

The site in question has been closed down, apparently legal action was taken. Does mean YouTube is also breaking the law as there are lots of TV shows on that too, albeit in segments?

    Yes.

In fact, YouTube is more obviously breaking the law as they are actually *hosting* the infringing works, while this one is only pointing to the illegal stuff.

The problem is that most courts aren't smart enough to understand the difference, so they will see YouTube as hosting a lot of LEGAL content, while the other site is purely for ILLEGAL content. They won't understand that taking the TV site down won't actually remove the shows/movies, and that it will just remove one way of finding them.

    Sad.

"The man" as in our U.S. government? Cause that site is completely legitimate in the UK where it's hosted. They don't have overly strict, insane copyright laws like we do.

Of course, there are numerous other sites that do the exact same thing.

Thanks to you I found out about the Internet archive (free movies etc.) I've had some very entertaining evenings visiting that site, even though they specialise in older content for movies. They seem to have a more or less open source mentality. Great stuff!
