    What will you do ...

When / if your favorite distro makes a "deal" with Microsoft ?

Many months ago I was looking at and evaluating SUSE and thought it was pretty good - nice interface and integration -- but as soon as Novell made the first deal with MS - I pulled out my GParted CD and blew SUSE away.

I do give MS credit (along with Intel) for really bringing the PC infrastructure to life during the '90s and up to XP. I worked for Intel as a HW designer in those days and like it or not - right or wrong - both of those companies brought us the much of the cheap - plentiful - and powerful platforms we use everyday.

However now MS is a rampaging - lost - and crazed 1000lb gorilla. The only thing they really have is MS Office as a document "lock-in" and FUD about Linux and Patents. Not a pretty picture

I use Ubuntu Fiesty and just loaded FedoraCore 7 (very nice) - these are the 2 distros I use ... I think I'm safe for awhile

I think I'll go ice skating in hell if Debian goes down that road.

I would say the community distros won't go, I would suspect MS will try to pick off a few more small commerical ones.

I think I'm safe in that my favorite distro is Slackware.

I am sure most of the community based distros won't be signing any patent pacts because there probably is very little or no money in it for Microsoft. If push comes to shove, then I will use *BSD full time.

It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

My favorite distro wont make a deal with Microsoft, 'cause it wouldn't be my favorite distro if it did.

    I would run devils_casper's distro:
    - devils_Linux?
    - Gnasper?
    - Kasperix? (casper, you will include KDE? )

I just don't care if novel has made a deal with microsoft. openSuSE is my favorite distro whatever happens. It works really well with my laptop and I am very pleased. So I don't see a point not using the community's development

Ditch it and buy a motorbike instead. I'm not running MS on my box.
