    Lightbulb Desktop Project

I'm turning my 4 year old Dell Dimension 4600 desktop into a TIVO-like recorder. What I was think adding a TV Tuner, a 2nd 160 GB Hard Drive, (I have a 40 GB already in my desktop), and install Linux on the 160 GB Hard Drive and downloading Myth TV on Linux. I was also thinking of partitioning my 40 GB Hard Drive and giving Windows only about 10 GB of space, good idea? I also need help in finding good prices for the TV Tuner and 2nd Hard Drive. Also does anybody know how make a IR receiver and well any Universal remote work on a home make IR receiver? Please add comments on things I should or shouldn't do or if I need change any of my ideas on things, like is a 160 GB 2nd hard drive big enough for what I want it to do?, or anything else anybody can think of. Thanks for your help I really appreciate it .

Ive never seen someone make a windows partition (xp) with less than 20 gig and not run really short of space.

Depending on what you chose to install, you might be able to get away with it however.

As my windows is there only for use when absolutely necessary it's installed on a 9-10 GB partition and works fine.

Until March this year, my Windows XP partition was 8Gb. I had a 'games' partition too, but the system ran on that. Of course, I was always deleting stuff off it, and making space (the real hog was the updates which windows always decided that I needed to keep after installing, because obviously once they're installed I might need to install them again...)

In the case I saw, the partition was used for gaming. It wasnt my computer, but I remember complaints about how more than one or two games was beginning to fill up too much disk space.

It may have been exaggerated a little. By the sounds of it everyone here has had it work out fine.

Does anybody have anything to add or comment on about my Desktop Project? Because as so as I can instill Ubuntu on my desktop and download Myth TV I'm buying the TV Tuner w/Remote, Internal Hrad Drive (320 GB), and External DVD Burner from Newegg.
