Certainly looks impressive to me but as I'm not into music or watching video's on-the-go I'm not sure I could ever justify spending that much on just a phone (even though I have no idea when/if it will hit the UK)

No, I definitely won't be purchasing one.

Interesting but not interested. I would have been a few years back. If I got one for free or next to nothing I would use it but to be honest it's not something I crave after.

I'm in the "interesting but not interested" crowd. I only started using a cell phone a year or so ago (at the age of 23) when my father handed me one. Since then I've kept the minimum plan and cheapest phone I can buy for it.
I neither need nor want a $300 phone any more than I needed/wanted a Blackberry or Treo when they came out. I'm just not the target audience for such a gadget.
I do remember reading an article about a super-plain phone with a black and white screen that just fields calls. No cameras, no special ringtones, no instant messages, just send and receive calls and keep track of your numbers. I am the target audience for a gadget like that.Registered Linux user #270181

I got myself a Sony-Ericsson t290i last year for 25€ (christmas special) and would have rather got something even plainer, but this phone is *tough as nails*.
Its been through water, mud and suffered several high falls. Its very scratched and dented, but just keeps on working.

Yes, all the hype over mobiles reminds me of the hype over digital watches years ago. Okay, so you can buy a watch which works 30 metres under water, manages your bank account and makes coffee, but all it's really for is telling the time.
I would also be interested in a phone which is just ... a phone.I am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it. - Pablo Picasso

Like most people would be caught dead in 30 meters of water!?

Virgin Mobile is where I got my phone and it's just that, a phone, no music, no camera. It was $20 USD but they seem to be giving it away now! haha I think all cell phones have text msg and web access, with virgin you only pay for it if you use it.
BTW, virgin is avail in UK also.I do not respond to private messages asking for Linux help, Please keep it on the forums only.

That is my biggest question. I can see email or even internet access being useful on the go. But who really needs a video of a dog skateboarding while walking around. Are we really that pathetic a society?
My brother actually had a friend that purchased one so he got to use it for a bit. He said the actual internet access was nice (not the mobile phone version but real pages) but the speeds were painfully slow (dial-up slow).Brilliant Mediocrity - Making Failure Look Good

I'm not that stoked about the iphone at all. For the amount of money they are asking for it, there's way too much it doesn't support that you would expect any fancy schmancy phone to do. I just broke my sprint contract last week (good lord I hate sprint) and opted to go with t-mobile and got their new t-mobile wing phone. I'm much happier with that than I propobly would have been with an iPhone.

I'm also one of the people that would like just a phone! My current one is a Samsung (don't know the model, got it for free) that does everything I want it to (make and receive calls). The one thing I think would be useful on a cell phone is a GPS, but I've checked the prices on some of those and they're well over $500, what the heck? There really are time when you need a GPS to get a around, and it seems like a good match to have it on the phone. However, everything else they've come up with just seems like junk to me.
