I've been using Linux for a year now!

About a year ago the hard drive in my Windows 98SE desktop died. (Fortunately my data backups were fairly current). Since MS had just quit supporting Win98, I didn't see the point of reinstalling that on the new HD.

I experimented with Red Hat 9 to see if it'd work, then installed Fedora 5 when I realized it would. I have decided I like Linux. It works well for what I want to do.

I don't know as much as some other helpful and respected forum members who've been using Linux about a year (thanks for the help), but I'm learning and enjoying it.

It seems to me that Linux involves learning new things and solving new problems, where Windows involves repetitious prevention or cleanup after viruses, spyware and such.

I am now gearing up to try installing another distro on my desktop without formatting /home (but I've backed up anyway).

I'm also experimenting with live CDs to see what will work best on the wife's laptop when Windows ME finally dies. I've been struck by how well developed and useable Linux is. We especially liked Vector 5.8 and the line of Tuxes that grows or shrinks as it loads or unloads. SAM also seems good.

All in all, I like Linux and will stay with it.

Congrats! You've made it this far which I guess makes you a lifer

The hardest part is the first fortnight. Although problems may turn up from time to time they seem to be less of a challenge as time goes on. Well done

I really liked vector linux. Not the most supported distro, but if you use what they have its a very classy looking distro

Like you said, linux is more into, you know, solving problems instead of making them and then cleaning up after. The no BS approach is really what sold me.

Happy oneth-tenial anniversary! (and yes, that is my made up word of the day)
