How is that new? What you quote is a standard "Nigerian". I've had dozens of those.
Actually it's not the scams that bother me so much, but I have suddenly received a deluge of sex ads, most of them promising to increase the size of my penis. Which is worrying because I don't have one. Whatdid I ever do to deserve this?"I'm just a little old lady; don't try to dazzle me with jargon!"

My email (the university ID) is full of such messages from Viagra to home loans. The best bet we had was to ban messages sent to various user groups from outside of the domain but from what it looks like these people are indeed very hard to beat.

Yeah, GMail's spam filter is pretty incredible.
My favorite part about these e-mails is the absolutely atrocious English that they use. I'll give a bit of flexibility to the guys who admit to being from Africa (though English isn't exactly unheard of there), but I get e-mails (in another account) from people from the UK just dying to give their money away. I mean, if I get one of these e-mails that contained proper grammar, I might actually believe it. Well, had I entered the UK lottery, I might believe it
.
But people _do_ fall for these. I remember reading somewhere about these people who actually travel to Africa to meet with the "Nigerian investor / Minister of Commerce" and get either killed or ransomed back.

- 07-13-2007 #17I'd drive you there, we'd be there before Sunday if we take turns and drive through the night. But alas, I have to be home because I've won $ 1,5 mln and $ 5 mln in the same lottery as the OP.

Could you follow through with their scam until they give information to send money to then use things like that to track them?
- 07-16-2007 #20
Well, the OP did mention a friend of his who went into this a bit. They asked for money, so they must have send a bank account number. That could potentially lead to personal information. Depending on the laws in your country, there are ways of sending money and pull it right back. No risk in loosing your money. That would give you some of their details on your *whatchacallid* bank note(?).
But I guess these are intelligent people making money of those who are not, or who are naive at least. You only need to catch one to make it worthwhile.
It would be cool: The Spammed Ones Strike Back.
But I think they have covered all their tracks. I really don't think there is much to gain from this except the intellectual excercize
See if you can find holes in their sceme.
