    My wonderful colleague

Someone I work with rang me, and part of our conversation went roughly like this:

Him: You're into computers aren't you?
    Me: Yeah, sort of.
Him: Well my old one's just died. I think the hard drive just needs reformating: it's a Windows problem. Do you want it? I know it works otherwise.
    Me: Yeah!
Him: And I've got a 14" flat screen monitor I don't want. Works fine. Do you want that too?
    Me: Yeah!!
Him: Cool. I'll bring it in on Thursday and give you a lift home.

I've become a dumping ground for discarded hardware, but I'll just install another *nix on the old machine and plug in the spare monitor. Result!

Nice. A few months ago I got an old Gateway laptop that was headed for the dumpster. After playing around with it, it probably will go to the dumpster after all. It was fun to see just how flashy a Linux distro I could cram onto a P3 with 64MB of RAM and no network card.

To be able to bring all of this stuff hoe you're either single or have a VERY understanding partner. I had to get rid of my one-and-only PC and replace it with a laptop due to my wife's 'polite' requests

Single and irresponsible. Of course the hardware might not work, but I think I'll be able to tease some extra life out of it.

If I had a wife and she tried to get rid of my PC she'd wake up and find all her **** outside.

I don't bother accepting stuff like that anymore, unless I can sell the parts. I've got way too much **** as is.
