Any good idea for writing a book?

    Hi,

I have some free time now and I am searching a good idea for writing a book.
Some friends gave me good ideas about social topics as euthanasia, homosexuality, minorities integration etc, but i dont really have inspiration on such things. While I am doing brainstorming in order to find the super-idea
I was thinking that a post would not hurt...

PS I use celtx for writing, but I am not fully satisfied. Any other suggestion?

    Thanks in advance

I think the secret is to write about what really interests you. It might take time to find out what that is.

You could take to a literary agent: they can offer ideas. If you live in the USA you have a broad and diverse publishing industry where there's a market for a lot of subjects. In the UK things are more narrow.

What not carry a notebook around and just jot ideas down. Keep it by your bed.

I agree but I think that it must interest the others too. Otherwise why publish it?

A literary agent? Not a bad idea. Well, I live in France; not a big market as the USA, but people read a lot.

That is a good idea. I always have a notebook but in my pocket. Sometimes it is helpful.

    Thank you very much

Well, what interests you is bound to interest at least .01% of the population, which, in the US, would mean about 30,000 people. Statistically speaking, you're bound to find more than .01% of people in the US find your idea, .1% would be a better example and then you're talking about 300,000 people!

As for ideas, all I can say is what was already said, do something you like! Our opinion in what's interesting is very limited seeing as we all have at least 1 matching interest. Again, statistically, we're not a good representation of the population!

Post The book of my life

If I wrote the book of my life I would become a billionaire!
I even have a written agreement of my parents that my mother shall give birth to a male child before I came into being. And If I told about my sufferings after my sister's death, and the alcoholic addiction of my parents after her death, and how God rise me out of this life of no future and desperation. All the things I could witness with and about Him!
So if you have a boring life dont ever start to write!

Well writing a book thinking like that is a lot like releasing a record. If you want it to sell (short term at least) you can write it for other people. If you want it to be appreciated and have longevity you write it for yourself, and those with like minds will enjoy it. And I can always appreciate something even if I don't like it when I know it's sincere.

throw wizards in. that's hot right now
Here's why Linux is easier than Windows:
Package Managers! Apt-Get and Portage (among others) allow users to install programs MUCH easier than Windows can.
Hardware Drivers. In SuSE, ALL the hardware is detected and installed automatically! How is this harder than Windows' constant disc changing and rebooting?

If you want a history, something dark and magic should be nice enough, or maybe write about this guy who loves this girl who is going to France forever

Now, seriously, I would write a book about philosophy, somethin about moral or like that. Something revolutionary should give you a best-seller

My co-worker and i were recently cleaning an apartment who's residents had recently skipped out. We joked that the management at our apartments had actually killed them. But we would end up being blamed. Then we talked about writing a book about it. It would have been a satire but it could be a serious book i suppose.

Just start somewhere and see where your imagination leads you. Explore different ideas. And don't aim for perfection at first. Practize. I've written quite some things, but I wont bother anyone with them. I know my limitations

Try differernt styles, the same scene in different wordings, different styles and different angles.
Note, it's not what you write but how you write it. My favorite writer (in Dutch) hardly ever writes about things that interrest me. Yet I keep reading and re-reading every story of his I can lay my hands on, for the sheer enjoyement of his usage of Dutch.

Oh, that said, write in your own language, no matter how proficient you are in an other one. Taking myself as an example again, I can write like this (in English) with no effort. But a frivolious remark might cost me half an hour to strike the right tone (or use the right expression). I can make myself understood in an other language, but it shall always sound uptight.
