What type of casing is that? It seems to big for the cables. Is it shrinkable casing?

No, but the things it usually encases are certainly shrinkable.

That reminds me of a story I heard when I was working at the Building Research Establishment in Garston. The Geotechnics Division needed to embed a number of small measuring instruments in soils of different kinds and someone discovered that the simplest way to protect them from damage was to encase them in condoms. So they put in an order for a couple of dozen French letters. Some burocrat in Stores processed this order and thought it sounded pretty fishy so he sent back a stiff memo refusing to purchase anything of the kind. Apparently it took weeks before they succeeded in getting their condoms.

I suppose under the circumstances a limp memo wouldn't have done the job.
