    Question Restart, shutdown, suspend, hibernate...

I was reading somewhere and it said that if i was to only put my computer into suspend and only shut it down if im not going to use it for more than two days then my computers "life" would increase, it wouldn't ware out as fast.

This then got me thinking if i should start using suspend, because i turn my computer (a desktop not a laptop) on and off about 5-10 times per day. Would it be better to use suspend or shutdown in my case?

Also, does it really harm your computer to "hard restart" it, ie press the restart button. If so, what does a "hard shut down" do - ie hold down the power button for 7sec.

Plus, what about hibernate - you shutdown the computer anyways though so i don't think it would make a difference.

And whats the difference between when i click suspend under mandriva and when i click sleep under windows xp, in mandriva the computer almost fully stops but under windows sleep mode all that seems to happen is the screen turns off.

    Thanks

if you turn your coputer on and off often, its not very good for your hardware... especially the hard drive doesn't like it very much...
