The Asus Eee PC
ASUS Eee PC - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Anyone heard of this? It's the awesomest (it deserves a new word) computer ever! I'm already planning to get at least 2 when it comes out next month.
It's obviously not a top of the line laptop, but serious, most people in the world don't need anything with higher specs than this. I've read a few articles that describe it as the biggest thing to every hit the tech world. I've seen some people try to compare it to the OLPC, which is just dumb, but have seen some comparisons to the Palm Foleo, which the Eee leaves in the dust (price-to-feature comparison)."Today you are freer than ever to do what you want, provided you can pay for it!" --Bad Religion

it is supposed to be intel's answer to the OLPC which doesnt make sense because it wasnt created as a competition product just something to help developing nations move into the computing age. and it was to help make it easy even for schools here in US as well as other places in the world.

I know this is an aging thread, but I read this review, comparing the Asus Eee PC value wise with the new Wal Mart Linux PC and it looks fabulous! This would be perfect to take on trips so the kids can watch videos and the wife can do email and shop the Internet. I feel almost positive the Asus Eee PC is going to be a big seller. I'm almost certain to place an order for one tomorrow.

It may violate General Public License (GPL)...
Just saw this article on iTWire indicating that there might be a problem with the eeePC:
Full ArticleMembers of the Linux community have complained that the hot new sub-notebook from Asus, the eeePC, may have violated the spirit of the Linux General Public License (GPL). Some Linux advocates claim the eeePC has not included required source code with the installed Xandros Linux distribution and does not easily enable users to install another distro. However, there are indications that eeePC fans probably don't care.oz

Not a big problem really. I love my eee pc to bits. It's small and easy to
carry around. I can even use it on the new style cramped train seats.
It can't be *that* hard to install a different distro as it comes with instructions
for installing XP if you're that way inclined. If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate! (Zapp Brannigan)
My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.
