I seem to remember Congress oe the FCC passed a law that makes it illegal to make commercials super loud like they have been doing...I don't believe it has gone into effect yet.

I just checked out TiVo as an alternative to avoid commercials and volume issues but found that it's a rather expensive service.
Streaming through Netflix was working well on my enabled blu-ray player, but our local internet provider has apparently oversold their service and streaming has begun to suck. Not sure when they'll get that straightened out, so our Netflix account has been placed on hold, at least for now.
Not sure about your provider, but I have a DVR. Only costs a few bucks extra a month.
And me and the wife love it!
Catch your shows, pause and rewind... and blow right past the commercials!
Might be oirth looking into.
And our service offers an On-Demand service. Kinda-Sorta like NetFlix.
Well, our friend who "invented" this dohickey (has an MS in Physics, and worked as an engineer for a long time) is now a SciFi writer. I'll have to see if I can get hold of him, and schematics for the device. It worked a treat, and this was back in the mid to late 1970's!
While it is no longer on the air except in reruns, Firefly was a good series that was really different, and the user ratings shown at IMDB.com reveals that it was very popular among many watchers. You can usually find great deals on the entire series (blu-ray edition recommended) for anyone that might be interested in it.
If you get a chance to watch. You won't be disappointed.
IMDb - Masters of Science Fiction (TV Series 2007–*)
It seems to have a rather low rating at the database, but then only 538 users have rated it thus far so I might check it out because I'm a big fan of science fiction and this does look interesting. Thanks!
Here's more on it for anyone interested:

It looks like Netflix has the entire series available.
Lately we been watching The River.
It's pretty interesting. And quite a few exciting moments on each episode.
It seems like network television is becoming less interesting all the time unless you enjoy corny sitcoms, reality TV, cop/legal shows, or constant commercials. While it's probably not going to happen anytime soon (or maybe ever), I wouldn't mind seeing a good western series show up on the airwaves. There were a few westerns showing up on cable/satellite TV for a while, but they premiered at a time when I didn't have the service so I've never checked them out.
