this may make me look stupid but who exactly are SCO?
They're a company based in Utah that make a Unix OS (and probably other stuff, too). They are/were also involved in UnitedLinux.Quote:

No SCO own the rights for Unix they bought them a while ago (Thats why i said it isnt an OS it is a trademark) If you want to call you OS a Unix type OS you need to pay them money and strictly follow the Unix system standard etc.. Now Calader relesed there OS under the GPL and thats how the code got into Linux.Quote:

Current SCO was Caldera, an Linux Distro.
Old SCO is now Tarrentella.
Mr. McBride thinks that he owns Linux instead of Linus Torvald.
He's currently sueing various companies over this and he has received help from Microsoft in this.
It all started with the lawsuite between SCO and IBM.
Now it also includes:
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC).
and many more.
If you want to get up te date on the subject, check : GrokLaw
yeah didnt they just sue
this week or was that last week... its hard to keep up with who they sue from week to week and as far as where did SCO come from...they were spun off from Novell a year or two ago......and needed to make money...and thus with lawyers running the company...whats the easiest way to make money...sue sue sue..........just a slightly sarcastic view 8)
YEah, and the lawyers are not paid in cash but with SCO Stock options...
No wonder they need to win the case, if they lose it will be all over.
And I hope it will for SCO.
Maybe SCO will be the new and improved *nix department of IBM ....
Don't you mean IBM will be prison guard and MS Buba Gatekeeper (since someone 'dug up' a contract between IBM and the 'author' of an olD OS which has a few lines printed at 1pt size ("to save space on the paper") with a few agreements) will handle SCO (Buba's favourite *****) :PQuote:
