IRC advertising

I've logged onto irc a couple of times over the past few weeks, and it is *shockingly* quiet.

Perhaps we should have a thread about IRC that we try to keep active? That might help drive a few more users to the channel.

Anyone else have any other suggestions?

Hey dude,
We tried a couple of pushes over the last few months on IRC but every time interest drops off after a week or so. At one stage we actually had about 12 people on

I pop on at least every other day but usually more. There were a lot of non-responsive users on there and I think that kind of scared people off. We've done our best to root out bots and perpetual lurkers (which is why the channel looks quieter by comparison).

I'd certainly like to see the channel active again, though asides from a few of us there doesn't seem to be a lot of interest.

My normal pattern when checking the forums here is to click on "Today's posts" to see what's been posted since the last time I logged on. If we had a thread (such as this one) that was regularly being posted to, then the irc channel would be brought to people's attention a lot (that is, if people tend to follow my pattern of clicking on "Today's posts").

Also, the fact that linuxforums has an irc presence might be lost to new users, since it's not that obvious from a quick look at the forums. Having a thread about irc might fix this.

Here are the recent threads anyway -

IRC thread in site news
IRC 'relaunch' from a few months back
The 'relaunch' kept the channel pretty busy for a few weeks anyway.
