Hiya,

As part of some forthcoming maintainence work being carried out at the datacenter with whom our server is located, linuxforums.org will be offline for a short 20-30 minutes time frame between the hours of 12:00am and 6:00am CDT on Thursday, November 11th.

Sorry for any inconvienence caused by this.

Ok, lets present some options:

Its either:
5am - 11am GMT.
OR
6am - 12pm GMT.

Take your pick, or just go by this :

"there will be half an hour scheduled downtime, at some point in the near future"

Wikipedia is your friend. Some points of importance:

* UTC (Coordinated Universal Time, don't ask) is independent of daylight saving.
* American Central Standard Time, CST, is UTC-0600.
* American Central Daylight Time, CDT, is UTC-0500.
* Greenwich Mean Time, GMT, is an old obsolete abbreviation which is obsolete because it has no clear definition. It's often used synonymously with UTC, but that's wrong. GMT simply shouldn't be used at all.
* UTC is purely a human invention and kept track of with atomic clocks, as opposed to UT1, which is a measurement of the Earth's angle relative to certain astronomical objects.
* UTC is always written using a 24-hour format, not AM/PM.

The Central Standard Time Zone runs with CST from the last Sunday in October, to the last Sunday in April. The other half of the year it runs with CDT.

That leaves one question open -- How can this time be measured in CDT, even though it's the CST time of the year? Are you sure about that, Jason?

If it truly is CDT, then it will be down sometime between 05:00 and 11:00 UTC. That also means that it will be down sometime between 23:00 and 05:00 UTC-0600, that is, 11:00pm and 05:00am CST, which is the currently used time in the Central Standard Time Zone.
If, on the other hand, it really is CST that you mean, it will be down sometime between 06:00 and 12:00 UTC.

For those, like me, that it applies to, that would be either 06:00 to 12:00 or 07:00 to 13:00 CET. In either case, I'll probably be sleeping then. ;-)
