IIRC, the change was because phpBB had some limitations that could be fixed with vBulletin.
Since the transition, everything seems to be working fairly well. Ultimately, it is Core Wizard's choice and since the forums still work, I feel there is nothing to complain about. With that said, you are free to say what you want (to a certain extent of course
).
