Question RE: Reporting bad threads/posts

From 'Reporting bad threads/posts':
Quote:
We havent seen many regular users reporting bad threads(spam, trolls, cruft) to the Staff since the switch to vB. So to see if we can fix this here we go .... If you see a post that dosnt look rite, feel rite, is spam or offensive please report it via the report button under the users avatar on the spacific post! Then list the reason for reporting the offending post (if it as a dupe please paste a link to the dupe) & it will be handled in a timely manner if deamed to not be within the rules or just needs to go. dont be shy the mod's will weigh it both ways before dealing with it.
From the report form:
Quote:
Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts.
"Where exactly does 'breaking the rules' fit in all of this?"

I believe it is probably O.K. most of the time to use the classic approach - write a "telling" post - but, what if it seems better if the admins/mods handle it privately...

Is it O.K. to use that same report form?

Hmmmm, for the record, I woke up today with 48 new emails in my email account with the title "Reported Post on Linux Forums", so I guess a lot of people are reporting posts...

These last few days it seems like we have been getting hit with more spam than normal.

I hope we won't continue to see this much spam.

On an unrelated note, where is this "Reporting bad posts" thread? It's in bad need of some proofreading...

It is the announcement in the Comments / Feedback / Suggestions forum.

EDIT: "Oh, silly me..." --- I just realized this same announcement seems to be present in all of the forums...

Which begs the question, "How does one edit an announcement?"
