suspend to ram in etch

I recently I reinstalled Etch. Everything works fine. The only problem is, that i forgot how I enabled suspend to ram last time (it was some months ago, right after the release of Etch). I know that it worked and I know that it works (it suspends when I code echo "mem" > /sys/power/state). I tried alls the possible howots on Debian user forums but nothing works. Can anybody give some hints about the issue?

Did you do anything special or was it just a program install. You might try installing uswsusp

As far as I can tell, I have all the relevant packages installed (besides uswusp I got hibernate acpi and so on). Last time I got suspend working I remember editing some configuration file. I gathered the tip by googling around. Unfortunately, I cannot find the same howto anymore.

Strange. I just removed uswsusp from my system and now I am able to suspend to ram and hibernate. However suspend to ram does not work properly. When I try to resume I get black screen and the only thing that helps is logging out. The strange thing is that when I try to suspend manually by coding
echo "mem" > /sys/power/state
everything works fine. Obviously, there are two different methods used in both cases and the problem is, how to get working the right one.

Well, half way there. Sadly suspend/hibernate on Linux sucks big time. I have a Dell notebook with the opposite problem. Suspend yes, hibernate no.

Nice! I found the solution of the problem. It was pretty simple. I just installed powersaved package and that's it. It works like charm now. Etch is great!
However, I find it a bit strange, because I use Gnome, but powersaved, as far as I know is part of KDE kpowersave equipment. Of course, I am glad, that it works finally.
