I have somewhat different problem, but I'd rather ask here than starting a new thread. I have IDE DVD-RW and SATA DVD-ROM. After installation from DVD-RW Debian automatically detects it, but not SATA DVD-ROM.

If I try to mount either of cdrom cdrw dvd or dvdrw, they all refer to IDE device. I don't even have an idea where to look for SATA one
And another (I hope, related) question. When Debian detects ports during loading, it finds three SATA ports (there are four of them in total and two of them are disabled at BIOS). The problem is that SATA3 port does not respond and it takes more than a minute for Debian to test it. So I was wondering if I can skip this port testing in anyway. Both devices work fine under Windows XP.
